Cronulla Sailing Club (CSC) is seeking a qualified Race Officer (RO) to join our Race Management Team. This is a hands-on part-time role assisting our existing RO and filling in as required.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
You will oversee on-water race management for specific series, regattas and trophy races, and help deliver a busy year-round schedule of events.
The RO is responsible for running a high standard of sailing by determining if conditions are safe for racing (in conjunction with the Sailing Committee), and ensuring that the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions are adhered to. The RO will safely operate the Race Committee Vessel and it’s equipment in accordance with OH&S requirements, and set the course(s) in line with the CSC course book. The RO will run the race and report results with the assistance of a volunteer team. This is an indicative but not exhaustive list.
This position reports to the Rear Commodore(s), liaises with our volunteer race management team and communicates with owners and skippers of yachts; so effective communication is essential.
Your most regular work day will be Saturday, plus other days as determined by the program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications and experience include:
- Accredited Australian Sailing Club Race Officer
- Knowledge of the Racing Rules of Sailing, conduct of racing and starting sequences
Preferred qualifications and experience include:
- Powerboat license and experience driving large powerboats
- Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency
- Dinghy and/or Keelboat racing experience
