Adult Learn to Sail

Ready to Set Sail?

Our Adult Learn to Sail programs are the perfect way to dive into the world of sailing. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to enhance your skills, we offer two great course options: Start Crewing (Yachts) and Start Sailing 1(Dinghies). Both courses are designed for adults and older teenagers (16+) who are keen to experience the thrill of being on the water – with no prior experience required!

Yachts – Start Crewing

Over four weeks, you’ll participate in a 3-hour session each week, learning the basics of sailing on a Beneteau yacht or J24 with a qualified instructor on board. These small keelboats are stable, safe, and ideal for learning. With small group sizes, you’ll receive plenty of personalised attention and hands-on experience from day one.

You’ll learn the essentials of:

  • Crewing and helming
  • Boat handling
  • Sail trim
  • Teamwork and communication on board

This course follows the Australian Sailing Start Crewing syllabus, the first step in the nationally recognised keelboat pathway. It’s a great option if you’re looking to gain confidence, build foundational sailing skills, or just enjoy the experience of sailing in a relaxed and social environment.

Dinghies – Start Sailing 1

If you prefer a more hands-on experience, the Dinghy Learn to Sail – Start Sailing 1 course might be for you. This course is also delivered over six weeks with 2-hour sessions, using small training dinghies such as the NS14, MG, or Laser.

With close instructor supervision and safety support on the water, you’ll learn:

  • Steering and tacking/gybing
  • Sail control using mainsail and jib
  • Balance and trim in a small boat
  • Capsize recovery and boat handling basics

Dinghies are more responsive and provide direct feedback from wind and water, making them an excellent way to build core sailing skills quickly. It’s a fantastic option if you’re interested in learning solo or two-person sailing in a more dynamic setting.

Whether you choose Yachts or Dinghies, both courses offer a fun, supportive, and practical introduction to sailing. All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn – we’ll take care of the rest!
